Code of Ethics 

The CRP Code of Ethics (Code of Ethics) provides the ethical standards of conduct governing designees awarded the CRP professional designation and authorized to use the CRP™ mark.  

By accepting the authorization to use the CRP designation, designees agree to act ethically, professionally, and responsibly with respect to all retirement planning and related activities.  In the event that an ethical principle contained in this Code of Ethics is inconsistent with a provision of an applicable state or federal law or regulation, the applicable law or regulation will of course take precedence.

Compliance with this Code of Ethics is mandatory of all CRP designees as a condition of maintaining eligibility as a CRP designee.

1.  Professionalism and General Ethical Conduct

A CRP designee will possess the appropriate level of knowledge relating to retirement planning products and services and will meet high standards of professional ethics, including honesty, integrity, fairness, due diligence and skill.

2.  Interests of Client

A CRP designee will place the best interest of his or her client ahead of all other interests.

3.  Needs of Client

Before making recommendations related to retirement planning, a CRP designee will use best efforts to learn the client's needs, objectives and circumstances. 

4.  Suitability of Transaction

A CRP designee will not recommend any insurance policy or other retirement product unless placement of that policy or product is in the best interest of the client.

5.  Lawful Transaction

A CRP designee will use best efforts to determine the identity of the client and that the proposed transaction is legal.  A CRP designee will not act on behalf of a client when there are reasonable grounds to believe that the transaction is illegal. 

6.  Accuracy of Information

A CRP designee will not knowingly submit information on an application for insurance or other financial product that is false, inaccurate or misleading.

7.  Maintenance of Records

A CRP designee will ensure that his or her financial records are properly maintained at all times. A CRP designee will follow sound business practices.

8.  Disclosure of Qualifications

A CRP designee will not misrepresent his or her education, qualifications or experience.  A CRP designee will inform his or her clients of license status, business names under which the designee is authorized to operate, and/or insurance companies for which the designee is appointed.  A CRP designee will ensure that references to qualifications, titles, business activities, services and products are clear, descriptive and not misleading.

9.  Disclosure of Product Information

When recommending an insurance-related or other investment product, a CRP designee will disclose all relevant facts, considerations, costs and risks associated with the product necessary for the client to make an informed decision regarding purchase.   A CRP designee will not be misleading as to the facts, considerations, terms, costs, benefits or risks of any proposed recommendation.

10.  Timeliness of Delivery

A CRP designee will deliver all policies, amendments and other financial or investment documents in a timely manner. 

11.  Confidentiality

A CRP designee will not disclose client information to any individual or company without the express written permission of the client, or unless required to do so by law.

12.  Conflicts of Interest

A CRP designee will disclose any conflict of interest related to any recommendations made by the designee, and the client must be allowed to stop any related transaction or seek professional advice on whether to continue.

13.  Complaints

A CRP designee will deal directly with any formal or informal customer complaint and do so in a timely and honest manner.

14.  Applicable Laws and Regulations

A CRP designee will stay informed regarding state and federal laws and regulations that impact his or her profession.  A CRP designee will observe such laws and regulations at all times.
